The Ultimate “Saw” Horse – The ‘Jaw Horse’

March 4th, 2010

The Jaw Horse is something of a revelation for me. This is yet another innovative piece of true engineering smarts that makes life yet more easy for the handy professional or homeowner alike. It’s like having another human around except it’s smarter. OK, OK, maybe that’s overkill. Indeed, the only thing this handy tool lacks is a joke-telling capacity. I can handle the rest. Below is but one example of but one of the expanded capacities of a 3 legged tool that does all the tasks a helper would offer.

It can hold a table saw, a tile saw, a welding operation. it can balance and hold any object up to 37″ across tightly with a ratcheting hand control which produces 1,000 lbs. of clamping power. It can even be enlarged with a simple available expanded arm to handle plywood and sheet rock to 48″.

The three legs are a highly intelligent system allowing one an easier platform for leveling and offering the most durable geometric form in Nature. Please watch the video that accompanies this incredibly wonderful product at the Amazon website in the links provided here. Its expandability and many uses are actually very real. This is not some hokum product sold late nights by shysters. On the contrary, this light weight, easily-stored tool will become a must-have for those people who take their projects seriously.

A Good Darn Tool Box – And Voo Doo

January 23rd, 2010

The HOMAK Stainless Steel Toolbox gives a moderate price to an item which has bedeviled at least me for years. Needless to say, a toolbox is a necessary component of anyone’s tool arsenal, as it were. What has always troubled me were the inordinate number of plastic tool boxes I have owned which invariably crack or fall apart owing to the rough traffic we supply at the rear of our trucks. Loading and unloading tend to be hazardous as heck to tool boxes everywhere. This Stainless Steel tool box is a bit sturdier and it has another quality which adds a touch more of security – it actually looks expensive. Don’t laugh. Items of importance are always treated better – a truism of the loading and unloading art. Thus, having a tool box which is waterproof, compact, sturdy and good-looking all conspire to make this a true winner in the tool box sweepstakes. The price is actually surprisingly affordable as well. Believe me, the voodoo I describe here actually works.

DeWalt Safety Glasses

January 21st, 2010

These DeWalt Saftey Goggles are a truly state-of-the-art set which provide the eye protection necessary for projects involving construction tools. The fact that they come at a moderate price is also extremely convincing. A built-in ventilation channel provides extra fog control and ventilation, something anyone who wears safety goggles will immediately look for. The cloth head strap is easily adjustable and forms a snug, comfortable fit. The protective sheilds themselves are composed of polycarbonate lenses which also provides solid impact resistance. A clip attachment is afforded, allowing an easy change for the lenses themselves. This is a great protective lens for all sorts of purposes.

The Cordless Reciprocating Saw – The Sawzall

January 13th, 2010

The Cordless Reciprocating Saw has got to be one of Mankind’s greatest ever inventions. Being a landscaper by trade affords me a somewhat unique perspective on power tools. I am typically – we’re talking 99.99% of the time – outdoors. At times, in fact, we are hundreds of feet from electrical power sources. I find myself in narrow trenches with pipe to cut, sometimes 2 feet below ground. I have a patching kit that can perform the patching process, no sweat. What I don’t have is the room nor the horsepower to cut that hard pipe with a small saw. The roots chip at my skin and the space is agonizingly tight. What do I do? I lay this nice long saw with its blade right on the pipe and I pull a trigger. “Voila!” the pipe is cut. Let me add that the same saw cut those interfering roots as well, on the way down. And this is merely one small way a landscaper – much less a plumber, electrician or carpenter can use what we call the Sawzall. Battery technology has also developed a phenomenal power – these are no longer toys, but real tools in real time that can do nearly what the electrical corded units can do. I never leave home without one of these.

Bucket Boss Tool Organizer

January 10th, 2010

Like everyone, I hate a messy project area. Also, like everyone, I hate walking back and forth to no matter where the tool I forgot is located. The Bucket Boss Tool Organizer is a fabulous solution to both of these problems. Numerous side pockets and a deep inner body, all draped around your typical 5 gallon bucket allow an impressive number of tools and parts to stay within arm’s reach at all times. Running back and forth can be cut into tiny events, owing to a combination of just a bit of pre-planning and a lot of tools and parts. This baby can hold them all. From drills and bits to screws and nails, the bucket organizer really fits a collected person’s needs like a glove. These bucket organizers were originally begun as garden and landscaping aids – owing to the multifarious needs of that trade. But the common sense of this unit appealed quickly to a wider range of trades, from p[plumbing to electrical contractors to carpenters and fixit guys in general. These are a ready and wholesome addition to any tool ensemble.

Kawasaki Cordless 19.5 Volt Drill Kit

December 13th, 2009

I admit to a bias in my choices of apparatus for drilling, screwing things in and taking things apart. I prefer a bit of power, personally. This 19.5 Volt Kawasaki Cordless Drill offers not only that extra strength but it also features a second battery – something which one just about always goes and gets to his dismay later after purchasing almost any power tool. Fast recharging systems rock, also, which this one also has. I have used many smaller electric screwdrivers for door jambs, fencing and the likes, but I also prefer my drills, owing to the greater torque, sure, but also because, well – they can drill too! This is a gorgeous little powerful unit, with some nice parts for working right away. I really like this set-up.

Pressure Washer Under $100

December 13th, 2009

I found this little unit fascinating, I will say right now. This Campbell Hausfeld PW13 operates at 1,300 PSI, which is more than enough to clean pretty much anything, yet not so powerful it will eat the paint off a car. In the past, our Pressure Washers, as professionals, were monster large units with 3,000 + PSI which could pretty much peel bark. We would use them on cleaning trucks and often find we had done damage.

Another absolute plus about this little unit, aside from its price, is the fact that it totes around easily and is run electrically. Durable and problem-free, I really like this unit a lot. It cleans cement and brick, siding, decks and pretty much anything in just a smidgeon less time. Nice little unit with many rave reviews in the users commentary section. For the price, this is a winner.

Cordless Power Saw

December 9th, 2009

Of all the great cordless tools of this new battery-powered era upon us now, I don’t believe I have gotten as much sheer pleasure out of any tool more than this Cordless Power Saw. So inured are we to the constancy of lugging around extension cords into unlikely and remote areas, complete with their bulk and their accidents, these lighter-weight yet still more than adequately powerful saws are the answer to a handyman’s prayers.

Take on a fencing project without the cord! Just flick a switch and she’s running! Cut any lengthwise piece of lumber without the cord hanging up on something or else worrying about electrocution from snipping the cird at a thoughtless moment. (And I have lots of those!) These are delightful, efficient and very clean-running units with ample power to last. I am in love.
