Kawasaki Cordless 19.5 Volt Drill Kit

Sunday, December 13th, 2009

I admit to a bias in my choices of apparatus for drilling, screwing things in and taking things apart. I prefer a bit of power, personally. This 19.5 Volt Kawasaki Cordless Drill offers not only that extra strength but it also features a second battery – something which one just about always goes and gets to his dismay later after purchasing almost any power tool. Fast recharging systems rock, also, which this one also has. I have used many smaller electric screwdrivers for door jambs, fencing and the likes, but I also prefer my drills, owing to the greater torque, sure, but also because, well – they can drill too! This is a gorgeous little powerful unit, with some nice parts for working right away. I really like this set-up.

Pressure Washer Under $100

Sunday, December 13th, 2009

I found this little unit fascinating, I will say right now. This Campbell Hausfeld PW13 operates at 1,300 PSI, which is more than enough to clean pretty much anything, yet not so powerful it will eat the paint off a car. In the past, our Pressure Washers, as professionals, were monster large units with 3,000 + PSI which could pretty much peel bark. We would use them on cleaning trucks and often find we had done damage.

Another absolute plus about this little unit, aside from its price, is the fact that it totes around easily and is run electrically. Durable and problem-free, I really like this unit a lot. It cleans cement and brick, siding, decks and pretty much anything in just a smidgeon less time. Nice little unit with many rave reviews in the users commentary section. For the price, this is a winner.

Cordless Power Saw

Wednesday, December 9th, 2009

Of all the great cordless tools of this new battery-powered era upon us now, I don’t believe I have gotten as much sheer pleasure out of any tool more than this Cordless Power Saw. So inured are we to the constancy of lugging around extension cords into unlikely and remote areas, complete with their bulk and their accidents, these lighter-weight yet still more than adequately powerful saws are the answer to a handyman’s prayers.

Take on a fencing project without the cord! Just flick a switch and she’s running! Cut any lengthwise piece of lumber without the cord hanging up on something or else worrying about electrocution from snipping the cird at a thoughtless moment. (And I have lots of those!) These are delightful, efficient and very clean-running units with ample power to last. I am in love.

Joby Gorillatorch Adjustable and Flexible Tripod Flashlight

Tuesday, December 8th, 2009

The Joby Gorillatoech is a stunningly simple helper. This amazingly simple little lighting gizmo is the state of the art in helping light up hard to get to, hard to light up areas which once were just the next thing to impossible to provide illumination for. Forget being lucky enough to find something to hang the old “Mechanic’s Light” onto – this one attaches in every cinceiveable position to almost any surface and is as movable within any confines as one can imagine.

Pop it under the car hood like the above when checking the engine, attach it to the bedpost for lights out reading, secure it to a tree branch to illuminate your campsite, or straighten the legs and use it as a hand held flashlight while walking the dog. Powerful magnetic and highly flexible feet allow the picture above, while the ability to wrap the legs around branches, say, or bedposts make it perfect around the house.

Up to 65 lumens adjustable intensity allows you to dictate the level of brightness for use in any scenario. The integrated dimmer switch allows you to control power and brightness with a twist of the wrist.

The Gorillatorch is a brilliant gift for the enthusiast: auto repair, home improvement, camping/outdoor, and creative lighting. The possibilities are endles.

The Incredible Manure Fork

The Ten Tined Manure Fork By Ames True Temper

Ok, this next tool up there is for outdoor people. While the very title of “Manure Fork” may not rouse one into a vicious speeding mad dash trip to a store for immediate purchase, a little information about this incredibly handy item is in order. Then, perhaps you might want to dash down – or order from here. Manure forks are obviously forks with more tines a bit closer together. Used originally for moving manure, the closeness of the tines meant less droppage and the far less bulky tineage worked far better and was much less exhausting than a big shovel.

What many may not realize is just how many outdoor uses a tool like this has. It is absolutely perfect for picking up leaves, for example. Every labor-saving element it possesses regarding manure and its movement (pardon the pun), can be resurrected in fields as diverse as handling mulches, raking and gathering leaves and even grass clippings. Curved and bevel-pointed at the end, it scoops a surprising amount of debris in a far more manageable and easier-to-operate form than with the wider and more cumbersome shovels. It is therefore a lighter version of the shovel with less head weight. For anything requiring time and energy and which this can help, the benefits soon become very obvious. Referring back to my landscaping days, tools like this were early acquisitions in tool-gathering. These things are just wonderful.

Black & Decker MSW100 Ready Wrench

Thursday, December 3rd, 2009

The Black and Decker ReadyWrench is a  handy item, a hugely popular choice among wrench-turners who long for a way of taking one tool outside and getting the job done with a minimum of parts to lose or find equally-challenging troubles with. While it does not supply everything which a true socket set with ratcheting hardware would supply, it is more than adequate for a homeowner facing the standard numbers of projects requiring wrenching. Having used this tool in landscaping as well, I can assure you its utility is pretty awesome.

The ReadyWrench features two rotating heads that easily adjust and click into place–just spin the heads to find the socket size you’re looking for. For further convenience, the heads detent at 45 and 90 degrees, so the ReadyWrench can be used like a ratchet for continuous turning.

With its short-pin design, the ReadyWrench replaces both one-and two-inch-deep sockets. It easily slides over nuts tightened down on long bolts where even a two-inch-deep or longer socket will not fit.

The ReadyWrench offers 16 socket options–5/16 inch, 3/8 inch, 7/16 inch, 1/2 inch, 9/16 inch, 5/8 inch, 11/16 inch, 3/4 inch, 8mm, 10mm, 11mm, 13mm, 14mm, 16mm, 17mm, and 19mm–in other words, all the standard and metric sizes you need to handle most any project. Additionally, there are color-coded laser markings on the side of each socket for easy reference (metric = blue; standard = red).
