A lot of people tire of the leaf-raking and grass collecting chores of garden seasons and look for relief. This handy little item from Toro – an excellent name in outdoor equipment – offers utterly reliable performance in a very lightweight yet durable package. The metal impellers reverse and can be switched from the blowing to the vacuuming in minutes. Fully electric, it also avoids all the problems of the combustion engines with a quieter and equally-efficient performance.
These also work well around the shop or even the house, especially for sawdust collection. It does require an extension cord for use, leading to all those issues of gathering and packing away but it certainly surpasses in ease of operation and general comfort the entire notion of cans of gasoline mixes and general engine trouble.

A good hand level is a beautiful thing. I suppose one of the most common uses around the average home is for hanging pictures, although I can also picture any number of equally important chores on the face of it where a level could align well and come in most handy for nearly countless reasons. This one’s price is very right, too, a factor in my choice.

This particular level I particularly like for a few very specific reasons. Unlike so many other levels, this one actually has non-slip features, meaning one can hold it on a wall and it will stay in place. This matters, as so many will agree who have held up a level for a period, then noticed the starting point either disappeared or the level itself sagged, meanhwile, the other hand is holding the item to be leveled. As a straight edge, as long as it is not abused, these are the true answer as well.

I subscribe to the theory that every home needs tools. I don’t care whether a person rents or owns, tools get elusive only when you don’t have them. This packet of a most generous array of tools for the home carries a special weight for me inasmuch as the entirety of the set not only includes tools and attachments meant for nearly every conceivable chore, but also even supplies drill bits in the assumption the homeowner already has a drill.

The other very, very cool aspect of this kit is how it fits inside a nylon bag, arranged easily inside and with everything within reach. The clunky tool box can go away because this thing fits in many more places, lots easier. It has all the essentials – literally everything and more. 115 pieces altogether from the good folks at Denali, a very good brand.

This handy little saw is a handyman’s delight. A one purpose tool, this little workhorse is precisely what it advertises itself as. The remarkable improvements in small tools in the past few years has led to cheaper and more reliable tools with some serious specialization.

This one is plenty powerful enough to cut through 1 inch oak as well as metal. It makes quick work of PVC pipes, vinyl gutters, wire shelving, wallboard, craft projects and a hundred other things. It’s small and light enough for even the most petite among us to grasp it firmly with just one hand, leaving your other free. For sheer utility, this is a tool from heaven. Changing the blade is tool-less, requiring a flick of the fingers. It hangs nicely on it’s recharging wall holder, making it very simply to grab and go.

Ever had a hard-to-reach nut to remove and wondered in apoplexy how on Earth you’ll figure out the proper sized wrench to deal with it? This handy little item allows you to flick a button and it collapses around the nut like nobody’s business. Reaching under a sink or toilet, behind some diabolically-placed nut on a car engine just got easier to deal with.

Boasting 220 foot-pounds of torque, this wrench is powerful enough to handle most household tasks, from car repair to fixing leaks. With the Auto Wrench, you simply press a button (positioned where you rest your thumb) and the jaws would open or close to your specifications. It opens to 1 1/4″, so it can be enlarged enough to get a purchase on most items we encounter in our fixings, especially around the house. At 8″ long, it can fit anywhere. A Black and Decker product, this little tool supposedly gets 650 cycles out of a pair of AA batteries. This is truly a cool little invention.

How many times have you pruned trees or plants and run into the temptation to use your garden pruners to cut a random wire with? From trees stakes to tomato cages, there are abundant temptations to use your hand pruners for project help they are not designed for. In the end, we dull the blades or – worse – ruin them by taking on metal instead of wood. As well, we tend to use the tips of the pruners for rooting out objects, among a raft of other sins.
This Leatherman product carries some vital and most helpful tools along with it. It has a set of wire cutters in built into the shafts of the handle as well as:
- Bypass pruners
- Wire cutters
- Weed remover
- Grafting knife
- Bark lifter
- Phillips screwdriver
- Saw
- Flat screwdriver
- Sprinkler tool
- Bottle opener
- Ruler
Any good gardener can tell you these are wonderful adjuncts to have in one tool. Once again, Leatherman has delivered a pretty amazing product and, what is as good, these tools are made as well as their stainless steel counterparts.
Leatherman products are amazingly useful and effective. Using the best stainless steel, ingenious design and rigorous tolerances, Leatherman makes the useful products that customers want, and backs them with a 25-year guarantee. I love this tool.

There is almost literally no tool more prevalent among skilled tradesmen these days than the famous Leatherman Tools. Developed by a man named Tony Leatherman, who tired of constantly reaching into his tool case for all the various items needed for repairing things, he developed some incredible multi-tools – or “survival tools” as they are more often referred to. Since then, Leatherman has become an internationally recognized company with hundreds of employees and a wide variety of durable, versatile, stylish products.
They are always amazingly well-designed and compact which is one of their best features. They are also crafted well enough to last, made from stainless steel and puittogether incredibly well. As a real tool-user myself, I so admire this product, I am literally never without a Leatherman tool. Time has borne out their utility, in spades.
The one pictured here is pretty inclusive. It does not leave much out. There are a stunning abundance of these fabulous items, however, often tailored to specific trades.
